Brash, tomboyish, and unafraid to resort to violence, Sam will fight anyone who claims that she's not the toughest member of the Skyfighters; not that anyone ever would. Her tough girl attitude is far from just an image, though. Deep down, Sam believes there is nothing more important than protecting the hurt or powerless, and will often seem impatient or impulsive only because she can't bear to stand idly by while people suffer.

To the surprise of her friends, Sam's mother is a rich, refined Japanese widow, who is seemingly unaware that her daughter turned out to be the polar opposite of her. She initially doesn't get along well with Kari because she reminds her of her mother, mocking her being a "princess," but eventually the two develop a sisterly relationship, especially after Alex dies.

Her brashness and impulsiveness make her a lot more like Errol than she is willing to admit, and while the two clashed frequently early on, it soon turned into more of a friendly rivalry, with the rest of the Skyfighters joking that they act like an old married couple. By the end, they turn out to be best friends, and despite the jabs, neither are interested in any sort of romance.

The reliable backbone of the team, Sam's greatest asset is always being ready and willing to fight, even when others are paralyzed by fear, or facing impossible odds.
